Domestication of Dogs

I recently watched a short Ted Talk by David Howe explaining the history of dogs. He explains how thousands of years ago we competed with wolves for survival in Eurasia and how they slowly got domesticated by humans feeding the lesser aggressive ones food scraps. This started the creation of the relationship between human and dogs. With the many uses for the "docile wolves" they slowly started changing to fit their jobs. Stocky dogs for farm work, slim and muscular dogs for racing, large buff dogs for guarding, this is how it all started changing. Then David explains how the breeds we have today are nothing like the old dogs. The use of artificial selection, humans breeding certain animals together for specific traits or looks, has created hundreds of different looks and dog breeds. With the creation of many different dog breeds, there is a dog for everyone to enjoy. Could you imagine what life would be like without the domestication of wolves to dogs? I consider my pets family members, I couldn't imagine life without dogs.
